Welcome to my portfolio. It exists as evidence of, and reflections on, my learning journey over the last four years of study in an online Master of Education (DE) program at Athabasca University.
While there is a little bit of information on the "About" page as part of this larger site, I will add to what is there as a means to provide context to the larger picture of my journey through this program. I started this program in 2014. Since that time, I have changed jobs, turned 40, and suffered three concussions - all of these things have marked moments of pause as I considered what I want my life to look like. More importantly, my two young boys, who were only 4 and 6 when I started, have grown so much - I can't believe I am almost over the finish line, but I still sometimes wonder why I decided to embark on this journey when they were so wee. But, ultimately, in many ways, I did it for them. I wanted more from my career to be able to better provide for them, financially, but more so emotionally, so that I could be happy and satisfied in my work, and be afforded more opportunity. I wanted to finally complete a graduate degree after almost two decades of wishing I had done so when I was younger. I wanted to prove to myself, and embody for them, the notion that learning is truly a lifelong pursuit. But it hasn't always been easy, as most days my life looks like this...
It is almost unbelievable to me to consider that I am almost done, as there have been times when I felt like it would never end. Balancing this program, on top of working full-time, and mothering 2 growing boys has been no small feat (6-5, ahem). Especially as doing it in increments of one or two courses at a time, it has felt so long. But, here I am, mere months away from program completion. It is my hope that this portfolio represents my journey well.
